Excelrs is teaching the engineering students of Dumka the skills that companies actually hire for.

Ask any student at Dumka Engineering College what worries them most and the answer is rarely the exams. It is what comes after. Will I get a job? Will I have to leave home for it? And will a company even look at me, when I have a degree from a small town and nothing to show beyond marks?

These are fair worries. We hear them every week at Excelrs.

Since last year, Excelrs has been working with the college on one idea. Students should learn the same tools that companies use, and build real things with them, right here in Dumka. No need to pack a bag for Bangalore or Pune first.

This year the Excelrs training goes one step further. Students learn React Native, the tool companies use to build phone apps.

What Excelrs does with the internship

Every engineering student has to do an internship and submit a certificate before the semester can be cleared. The rule exists for a good reason. It is meant to put a student in front of real work before the degree ends.

In practice, it often turns into paper. A certificate arrives, the file is complete, and the student has learned very little. Parents pay, the weeks pass, and at the end there is nothing the student can open on a phone and say, I made this.

Excelrs did not want to add one more certificate to that pile.

So an internship here is work. Students learn a tool, then build something with it, then show it to a mentor who checks it properly. The certificate still comes, and it carries the college's name next to Excelrs. The certificate is the receipt. The thing they built is the real result.

What Excelrs is teaching this year

Look around any bus stand or chai shop in Dumka. Almost everyone has a phone in their hand, and most of what they do on it is an app. Paying, ordering, booking, watching, talking. Every one of those apps was built by someone who knows how to make them.

That someone can be a student from Dumka. That is why Excelrs chose phone apps.

React Native is what companies use to build apps for both Android and iPhone from one piece of work. It is not an old chapter from a textbook. When a student learns it and builds an app, they have the kind of proof a company looks for when it hires.

There is a nice thing about phone apps for a beginner. You see your work straight away. You change a line, and the app on your own phone changes. That keeps students going on the days when the code does not work, and there are many of those days.

Excelrs wants a student from Dumka to be able to build the apps companies use. They just need the same tools, and someone to teach them.

What a student does at Excelrs

The training is not a set of lectures followed by a test. It goes roughly like this.

  1. Learn the basics of building a screen, and get a small app running on your own phone.
  2. Add the parts every app has: a list, a form, a login, data that is saved.
  3. Build one complete app, with a mentor checking the work as you go.
  4. Show it, explain it, and fix what the mentor points out.

Some students will move fast and some will need more time. Both are fine. What matters is that every student finishes with an app they built themselves, not one copied from a video.

Where the students sit

A lot of the Excelrs work happens at the Lawazia office in Dumka. Excelrs is how Lawazia trains people, and the office is where the products are built.

When a student sits where people are building real products for real users, they see how work is actually done. How a team plans the week. How a mistake gets found and fixed. How people ask for help without feeling small. None of that is in a syllabus, and all of it is what a first job expects.

It also tells families something. This kind of learning does not only happen in a metro. Excelrs is doing it on a street in Dumka.

After the internship

For many students, an internship ends and that is it. With Excelrs, it does not have to.

Students who show real skill and keep at it can continue into paid work. Lawazia hires from Excelrs, because we know exactly what these students have built and how they work. We would rather hire someone trained here in Dumka than search for a stranger in another city.

Not every student will want that, and that is fine too. A student who leaves with a real app, a mentor's honest feedback, and a working knowledge of React Native is ready to apply anywhere.

An honest note

Excelrs is not a government course, and the certificate is not issued by AICTE. It is a training and internship program run with the college. It is recognised because the college puts its name on it, and because Lawazia hires from it directly.

We also cannot promise every student a job. Nobody honest can. What we can promise is that students will learn a tool companies use, build something real with it, and get feedback from people who do this work every day.

For students and parents

If you are a student at Dumka Engineering College, ask your department about the Excelrs internship. Come with one question: what do I want to be able to build by the end of this?

If you are a parent, ask to see what your child made. Not the certificate. The app. If it opens on the phone and works, they have learned something real.

The talent in Dumka was always there. Excelrs is here so students can learn the right things, close to home, with people who take their work seriously.
